Cuemái at Milan Design Week 2025: Honoring Tequila

Date:

4/21/25

Milan in April has an electrifying atmosphere, filled with design, discovery, and innovation. This year, our return wasn't focused on launching a collection; it was about listening, learning, and sharing a story that started long before the limelight. Last year, we took part in BASE with a Master preview that hinted at what the CSM graduation would involve. This year, the project has grown considerably, becoming a full-fledged entrepreneurial company committed to advancing Mexican design and sustainability.

At BasicVillage, our project was proudly showcased in the Winners Pavilion by Isola Design, standing among a diverse array of global design voices, each presenting a unique perspective. After receiving the Isola Design Award at Dubai Design Week, this moment in Milan felt like a natural progression of our journey, a powerful return, yet also the start of a new chapter brimming with promise and potential. We shared not only our tequila-based textiles but also rich memories of farmers and the unspoken resilience present in every fiber of our creative process.

Visitors from around the globe engaged with our vision, captivated by the unique and innovative approach we have adopted to tackle a significant environmental challenge. They were particularly intrigued by our methods for transforming tequila waste into circular materials. This process not only minimizes environmental harm but also plays a crucial role in uplifting and empowering communities that are often marginalized or overlooked. Our initiative harnesses the byproducts of tequila production, which traditionally have been discarded, and reimagines them as valuable resources.

The reactions we received from our visitors were positive. Each interaction enriched our understanding of how global perspectives can influence local solutions, reinforcing the idea that sustainability is a shared responsibility that knows no borders. In essence, the engagement of visitors from around the world was not just a moment of curiosity; it was a powerful affirmation of our mission. Together, we are forging a path toward a more sustainable future, where the waste of one industry can become the foundation for another, promoting a circular economy that benefits all.

Milan served as a powerful reminder that the world is listening, that there is an audience eager for innovation. Tequila Harmonia is ready to speak louder than ever before, to amplify our message, and to inspire others to join us in this vital movement toward a more sustainable and culturally rich future. Our presentation wasn’t the end of a journey. As we packed up our display, we brought back renewed purpose and a vision brighter than ever: to keep weaving culture, ecology, and innovation into every square meter of fabric.

Stay with us as we continue to turn agave’s legacy into a circular future—one fiber, one friendship, and one conversation at a time.
